Dual Glaze is fast becoming a preffered solution to full frame replacement of aluminium joinery. As seen on TV, Dual Glaze is a Fletcher Trademark and Rylock Specific Design has exclusive access in the Wellington region. Specific Design have installed Dual Glaze in commecial joinery at the Wellington Port through to residential addresses in Mount Victoria.
Dual Glaze can be retrofitted to most existing aluminium framed joinery. Even sliding doors and hinged doors. The concept is as simple as removing the existing single glaze bead, installing new double glazing to your specification, then fitting new double glaze bead. Sliding doors and Hinged doors are sometimes a bit different depending on the original fabricator and the age of the joinery.
Existing opening windows such as Awning and Casement windows are generally pocketed, this requries replacement of the opening window extrusion.
We are able to colour match as close as possible to existing colours. The colour of existing powdercoating can fade with age as well as the possibility that the colour may be a discontinued colour.
All measurements for replacement Dual Glaze are taken before manufacure begins. At the time of installation opening windows are simply replaced with the new double glazing units and the window extrusion, we also fit new stays to support the extra weight of the double glazing. This is also a good time to upgrade the window handles.
Glass Specification
Personalised glass specifications for Dual Glaze can vastly improve the quality of your living environment. Standard double glazing where human impact is not an issue, and the square area doesn't exceed 2.0 m2, generally consists of 4mm of clear float glass, air space of up to 14mm and a second piece of 4mm clear float. Larger surface area with very high wind, and greater wind speed require specific design calculation of the required glass thickness.
How to improve you Glass Specification
Adding tinted glass to one of the panes in the double glazing will reduce glare and add privacy. By swapping one piece of float glass with laminated glass, adds a 99% UV filter to the double glazing, laminated glass also has excellent acoustic properties where noise is an issue such as inner city living. Laminated glass is safety glass and can be used where the glazing needs to meet human impact safety requirements. Low E (Emissivity) glass greatly enhances the insulation performance of double glazing. Adding Argon Gas to the air space also improves the insulation performance of the double glazing.
Toughened glass is primarily used where human impact requriements are needed, toughened glass does not improve the thermal or acoustic properties of double glazing other than adding another layer of glass to the joinery.
